Material
This collection was created as part of Lékué’s goal towards a more conscious and sustainable business model. The aim of this collection is to start producing new products with a lower percentage of plastic using organic or recycled materials from other industries’ waste, ensuring 100% recyclable products with a long shelf life. The main material used is a combination of wood fiber and polypropylene, a 100% recyclable plastic that's perfect for food use.
The wood fibre comes from the waste generated by logging activities in the manufacture of consumer goods. Moreover, the wood fibre is formed mostly of cellulose - the most abundant organic biomolecule found in land biomass - which, unlike oil, is a natural polymer and resource.
The wood waste is shredded, filtered and sterilized, then blended with propylene to create this new material. It means resources aren't wasted, and reduces carbon dioxide emissions released by burning wood waste.
With this process, we obtain a high-quality, completely safe material that complies with the strictest of regulations.
